Now Accepting Applications to Join the Student Pulse Editorial Board

Student Pulse is currently accepting applications from undergraduate and graduate students interested in joining our Editorial Board. The Editorial Board provides crucial guidance to the direction of the publication and helps ensure the long-term viability of Student Pulse by increasing awareness about our journal on campuses around the country and the globe.

Serving on the Student Pulse Editorial Board is an opportunity to help determine the direction of one of the world’s fastest growing student journals while gaining valuable insight into the editorial process and advancing your skills as a writer and critical thinker.

We are currently seeking students with backgrounds in the Social Sciences and/or Humanities to join our team. Responsibilities of board members include:

  • Availability for approximately 2-3 board meetings per semester. Because of the discrete nature of the board, these meetings are generally conducted via video conference on U.S. East Coast time. These meetings help determine the future direction of the journal and are used primarily for planning purposes, to discuss proposals for special sections, and as an opportunity to share feedback and ideas to improve the journal.
  • Board members are expected to contribute at least two articles per semester to Student Pulse. These articles can be editorial in nature or they can be articles that you have written in the course of your studies. As an Editorial Board member, your contributions will be distinguished as such on Student Pulse.
  • Board members may be asked to review submissions to the journal that fall within their field of study. Generally, members of the Editorial Board will be asked to review approximately one article per month, or up to three in a semester.
  • Members of the Editorial Board should act as campus ambassadors for the journal by telling other students about the publication, encouraging new submissions, and generally helping to increase awareness of the publication and the opportunities we provide for students to enter the academic and professional discourse.

Editorial Board members serve for one-year annually renewable terms on a volunteer basis. Board members will have a brief bio and photograph featured on the Student Pulse website in addition to having their editorial contributions featured in a special section. The journal will provide each Board member with business cards and other printed materials (as needed) to aid in their role as ambassadors for the journal.

To Apply

Interested applicants should submit the following to dustin.turin@studentpulse.com with the subject line “Editorial Board Application.”

  1. Brief cover letter describing your academic background, relevant experience, and long-term goals.
  2. Recent writing sample, ideally on a topic related to your course of study.
  3. CV/Resume detailing notable academic achievements, conference participation, publications, and work experience. If you have published an article in Student Pulse, please make sure to indicate this on your CV.

Successful applicants will display exemplary writing skills, including the ability to communicate clearly even when dealing with complex ideas. Strong leadership characteristics and the ability to work independently and on a deadline are essential to fulfilling the roles of a Board member.
