Bacon - The traditional measure of progress is GNP, or gross national product.3However, in the past two decades, a general consensus has arisen that GNP does not paint a full picture of a country&#39;s well-being.  The International Monetary Fund (IMF) instead has begun to index GNP to a purchasing power parity (PPP).  PPP is intended to give a more accurate picture of the economic status of a nation, by accounting for differences in cost of living.
